Biocompatibility Specialist II
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Scientist II is responsible for writing Biocompatibility Assessments and Reports, assessing test data, and sending out test samples. Other responsibilities include working closely with Research and Manufacturing to support projects that need biocompatibility assessments and consulting with members of Corporate Toxicology and other BSC departments to provide information and recommendations regarding biocompatibility issues. This position is also responsible for coordinating, developing and maintaining systems, procedures and protocols pertaining to biocompatibility. This person will demonstrate a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality.
Qualifications (Minimum Education & Experience):
This position requires knowledge and ability typically associated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Engineering or a closely related scientific discipline and 3-5 years experience, or a Master’s level degree and at 0-2 years experience; plus evidence of continuing self-development. It also requires evidence of knowledge of human and laboratory animal anatomy and physiology, an acquired solid background of technical knowledge and experience in biocompatibility testing requirements related to ISO 10993 standards. A basic understanding of toxicology and safety assessment principles is preferred. Additional experience working with functional divisions including quality assurance, Contract Research Organizations, or operations personnel is needed as well. The Scientist II will possess specialized training and knowledge in a field related to biocompatibility or board certification for that specialty. This position will have demonstrated evidence of decision making in the field of microbiology, sterilization, drug development, or biocompatibility which has had influence on novel product development or materials safety.
