Product Development Team Leader
Requirements
The role of Product Development Team Leader requires a blend of drug development experience and expertise, the ability to influence in a matrix environment, coupled with commercial/business astuteness. Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds within Pharma/Biotech. We offer an opportunity for personal and professional development for someone already in a similar role or someone with sound drug development or commercial expertise who sees this as an opportunity to stretch themselves further.
The successful candidate will show a mix of attributes that include sound leadership capability, excellent communication skills, a sensitivity to team culture, and a need to base decision-making on sound business principles. The candidate will have been exposed to a mix of project issues necessitating sound decision-making in the context of the project objectives. They will also be confident in their ability to harness the best of the core team and its stakeholders whilst ensuring that all contribute positively to the project.
Qualifications
First degree (i.e. bachelors) in a scientific, medical or business discipline. An additional/post-graduate qualification will be a distinct advantage (PhD, MBA etc.).
Experience
Candidates will demonstrate the following:
Proven management and/or leadership experience in an R&D or commercial context within pharma and/or biotech.
In depth knowledge and experience of the global drug development and commercialization process.
The following experience is also desirable:
Experience with biologic and/or vaccine projects
Experience in more than one therapeutic area.
Experience of global late phase (II/III) drug development, regulatory submissions (BLA/MAA) and product launch.
Fundamental skills contributing to the success of this role and its impact on the business are:
Excellent leadership skills and a proven ability to manage development projects.
Strategic thinker with excellent problem solving skills and an ability to influence all levels of the company.
An in depth knowledge of the drug development and commercialization process.
An ability to achieve results in a matrix management organization, across different sites and with colleagues of diverse functional expertise, skills and priorities. This would include the ability to challenge the status quo where relevant, and to resolve conflict within the team whilst maintaining clear focus on business objectives. It also requires the ability to lead by influence rather than by command.
An ability to develop strong interdependent partnerships and to influence within a matrix environment.
Good commercial acumen and focus.
Ability to drive, anticipate, influence and implement change.
Ability to be effective as a team player as well as a team leader (excellent listening and collaboration skills).
