Description
JOB SUMMARY:
This position will provide technical leadership in the area of analytical biochemistry, in particular the field of small molecule separation. The successful candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary team to develop new media supplements and non-animal peptones for production cell culture media. The incumbent will design, implement, and analyze experiments; develop and validate new assays and procedures; cultivate and lead both new product development and independent research projects; organize and present data to both internal scientists and external customers; and train and supervise junior level scientists as necessary in biochemical methods and techniques.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Position will work closely with team members of the Bionutrients R&D organization to integrate the necessary knowledge for developing new media formulations or supplementations to promote enhanced media performance.
* Will develop test protocols, assays and other relevant procedures for our Bionutrients media optimization programs.
* Will train and supervise junior level scientific associates in biochemical methods and techniques as necessary.
* Will be required to represent media capabilities via seminars, papers, joint R&D collaborations, and customer meetings/focus groups.
* Engaged in direct interaction with customers (internal and external) to discuss technical issues and performance needs of the Peptone program.
* Assist in the preparation and submission of technical papers, posters and communications from the Bionutrients team.
* Assist in the development of experiments, execution, analysis of results, interpretation and reporting of results.
* Work closely with other members of the R&D team to develop new products for media supplementation.
* Accurately collect, record, and maintain scientific data. Identify problems and propose or develop approaches for solving them.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with large multifunctional teams. Below are the minimum scientific qualifications for the successful applicant.
1. Expertise in classical separation science and analytical biochemistry, including extensive experience in chromatography methods development and scale up, filtration technology (TFF) and standard protein characterization, is required.
2. Extensive experience in biomolecules separations, peptides, metabolites, small carbohydrates, and other biomolecues, is required.
3. Experience in separation methods, mass spec, and/or other analytical techniques for proteins, carbohydrates and other biomolecules is highly preferred.
4. Experience in directing scientific associates and leading small groups of scientists is highly preferred.
5. Experience with cell biology/metabolism is preferred.
6. Familiarity with cell culture is preferred.
7. A background in protein digestions and media formulation experience will be a benefit for this position.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum of three years of industry experience.
