Animal Resource Assistant in biotech

Job Description The Animal Resource Assistant is responsible for the husbandry of laboratory animals and the maintenance of the animal facilities, in accordance with all regulations pertaining to Laboratory Animal Care. • Cleans and sanitizes assigned animal cages and rooms; observes and evaluates general health and environmental conditions of animals and animal facilities. Keeps accurate records. Reports all situations to the appropriate personnel. •Provides food and water to animals daily, according to proper diet instructions. •Handles and restrains all species housed on site. •Performs cage wash duties. •Supports study activities. •Receives incoming animals; records animal weights and other pertinent information. •Receives and stores animal feed, bedding and supplies; records and files the appropriate information. •Performs work in areas regulated by federal, state, local (Animal Welfare) laws and departmental SOPs pertaining to Good Laboratory Animal Practices. •Performs other duties as may be required. Minimum requirements •Ability to detect changes in the animal rooms, i.e., changes in temperature or humidity and detect sick or diseased animals. •Good verbal and written communication skills. •Basic knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and Email). •Able to represent Laboratory Animal Services in a clear and professional manner. •AALAS certification at the ALAT level (or within 18 months of appointment). •Able to perform physical work; move heavy equipment as required, lifting up to 50lb. •Exposure to laboratory animals, which includes possible allergens, bites and/or scratches. •Exposure to hot and humid environments. •Required to wear all the appropriate personal protection equipment. •Required to work weekends and holidays.
