BioMedical Development Manager
We are currently looking for a BioMedical Devleopment Manager in our Cambridge office. The BioMedical Development Manager will oversee the daily operations of the Animal Resource Center, supervise, hire and train ARC staff, train ARC users, maintain the training program, maintain standards of animal care in keeping with all federal, state and local regulations, have the ability to interact well with individuals at all levels across multiple departments, and coordinate IACUC activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Manage daily operations of the Animal Resource Center such that animal welfare is assured and non-clinical in vivo study needs of the Company are met in a timely manner.
Supervise ARC staff and ARC users
o Responsible for oversight of ARC staff members (current level of two technicians); coordinate and schedule daily work activities
o Responsible for training ARC staff and users, verifying proficiency, and maintaining the training program
o Perform activities as required to meet Facility operation demands
Coordinate IACUC meetings and maintain documentation associated with Animal Research Protocols and regulatory requirements
Maintain research animal facilities in a manner appropriate to the species of animal, requirements of research protocols, according to currently accepted standards of laboratory animal husbandry, and in accordance federal, state, and local guidelines and ordinances
Maintain facility at appropriate Biosafety levels
Perform specimen collection and procedures in non-clinical studies; coordinate activities with investigators
Rotate weekend and holiday coverage and on-call" duties
Establish, maintain and revise SOPs. Provide oversight and maintain associated documentation for animal health monitoring, husbandry activities, facility sanitation, operation of equipment, technical procedures, and other facility operations. Maintain records as appropriate.
Interact with Facilties Department to ensure timely maintenance and repairs of physical plant and equipment, environmental monitoring systems, waste management, and pest control program.
Serve as primary health and safety representative for the ARC
Ensure adequate acquisition and inventory of ARC supplies
Observe condition of animals and report any abnormalities to supervisor/attending veterinarian; provide nursing care for animals as appropriate; maintain related records
Related duties as assigned
The right individual needs a bachelor's degree in related field, AALAS certification at the LATg level preferred. A minimum of three years experience at the Manager level in industry is also preferred. A strong personnel management and training skills are essential with the ability to work well with multidisciplinary groups; excellent verbal and communication skills is a plus. Must have the ability to perform animal research procedures and train others as well as plan, control, organized and conduct routine and specialized animal care activities. The ability to handle toxic and biohazardous materials safely and train others is a must. The individual is required to avoid all rodents as pets (or animal food) and animal colonies which might pose a vector of disease introduction into the animal facility.
