What is the MDL Chime 2.6 product
and why is it useful?
MDL Chime 2.6 SP4 is the latest no-fee version of the
Chime product. Chime is a software plug-in that enables
viewing of chemical structures in a browser window. The
structure format must conform to one of the MIME types
that Chime can accept. Chime usage is limited as
described in the Chime end-user's license
agreement. | |
|
|
What kind of technical support is
available to Chime users?
MDL provides Chime as a no-fee product, but we don't
provide technical support for Chime. We do try to track
issues as they are reported, and review them for
possible correction and inclusion in future
versions. | |
|
|
Do you respond to email support
questions?
We try to respond to as many questions as we can;
however, we can't respond directly to all questions. We
will continue to add frequently asked questions to this
list. In addition, there are several good sources of
information on Chime within the academic community.
Check the Developer Tools link: Additional
Resources. | |

|
Can Chime be licensed by an
organization for distribution on a network or
CD-ROM?
Yes. Chime has three types of licenses: end-user,
distribution, and network. The end-user license
is for single users. The distribution license is
for organizations that need to distribute Chime on
CD-ROM. The network license is for organizations
that want to distribute Chime from an internal file
server, and also for not-for-profit academic
institutions who wish to install Chime on individual PCs
for academic use (for example, in a computer
lab). | |
|
|
What is the difference between
Chime and Chime Pro?
Chime Pro is a version of Chime that is sold and
licensed throughout the cheminformatics industry. Chime
Pro can be used in conjunction with other MDL products
to display, search, and retrieve chemical structures
within a database. Chime is limited to structure display
only, and does not permit structures to be obtained from
a database without a special license for a product
called Chime Server. For information on Chime Pro, visit
the MDL Chime Pro product
pages. | |
|
|
When will you have a version of
Chime for Macintosh OS-X or Linux?
We don't have any current plans for an OS-X version
of Macintosh or a Linux
version. | |
|
|
Why doesn't Chime work with
Netscape 6 and 7?
Chime has been tested on a number of platforms,
including certain versions of Netscape and Internet
Explorer. The fully tested browser and operating system
combinations are listed under the Requirements link.
Other combinations of operating system and browser may
work partially or not at all. Unfortunately, we don't
have the resources to test Chime on every new browser
and operating
system. | |
