Research Associate in Biotech Job Responsibilities

The Research Associate I/II will be responsible for performing molecular biology and virology projects in support of scientific investigations at the Institute. This position will perform basic and specialized molecular biology techniques with limited supervision. Techniques include one or more of the following: PCR, RTPCR, restriction/modification enzymes, plasmid preparations, RNA preparations and purification, cloning and subcloning, virology assays like Plaque assay, TCID50, hemagglutination inhibition assays, micro-neutralization assays, and other general molecular biology techniques. The Research Associate will also maintain stock of all reagents necessary, keep accurate written records and biological stocks representing work performed, provide daily maintenance of equipment, participate in laboratory meetings, and will prepare and present projects at meetings and conferences.

Qualifications Qualified candidates will have Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field and a minimum of one-year experience required; or a Masters Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology required. Candidates must have hands-on laboratory experience preferably in an independent project, must be able to operate standard laboratory equipment such as balances, centrifuges, speed vac, spectrophotometer, and an autoclave, have familiarity with standard laboratory safety procedures, and must be able to read, comprehend, and discuss relevant literature with co-workers. Candidates should have excellent organizational and time management skills and have the flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shifting priorities.
