Associates I/II, Fermentation
• Preparation of bioreactors, including calibration of probes,(pH, D.O.), pump calibration, and vessel sterilization
• Precise preparation of media following detailed instructions
• Monitoring bioreactors through sampling, off-line measurements, checking online parameters, and accurate recording of data
• Operate bioreactors through software interface and input data into laboratory data management system
• Respond to out-of-spec fermentation parameters in a timely manner and communicate critical information to fermentation scientist team
• Take down, sterilize, and clean bioreactors at end of run
• Assist in seed train propagation, including seed bioreactor setup and operation
• Perform routine maintenance on common laboratory equipment
• Prepare media and stock solutions
• Follow SOPs and safety protocols
Education and Experience:
• BS in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field from accredited college/university (candidates without a BS degree but significant relevant experience may be considered)
• 1-4+ years relevant biology laboratory experience; preference given to those with experience operating bench scale bioreactors
• Proficient in microbial culturing and aseptic techniques is required
• Basic understanding of microbial metabolism and nutritional requirements is preferred
• Comfortable working with and learning how to use bioreactor control systems, associated software and fermentation analytical equipment
