OBF (Open Bioinformatics Foundation) is a non-profit, volunteer-run group dedicated to promoting the practice and philosophy of Open Source software development and Open Science within the biological research community.

Currently, OBF supports the following open source software projects:

  • BioJava - A collection of free and open source Java toolkit for computational molecular biology
  • BioPerl - A collection of free and open source Perl toolkit for computational molecular biology
  • Biopython - A collection of free and open source Python toolkit for computational molecular biology
  • BioRuby - A collection of free and open source Ruby toolkit for computational molecular biology
  • BioSQL - a generic relational database model covering sequences, features, sequence and feature annotation, a reference taxonomy, and ontologies (or controlled vocabularies)

  • BioJS - an open-source library of JavaScript components to visualise biological data
  • BioHaskell - Bioinformatic libraries in Haskell
