✍: FYIcenter.com

A

A Molecule is a group of two or more atoms that form the smallest identifiable unit into which a pure substance can be divided and still retain the composition and chemical properties of that substance.

Examples of molecules:

  • Hydrogen gas molecule has 2 hydrogen atoms bonded together. Hydrogen gas is the smallest molecule.
  • Dioxygen molecule has 2 oxygen atoms bonded together.
  • Water molecule has 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom bonded together.
  • Carbon Dioxide molecule has has 1 carbon atom and 2 oxygen atoms bonded together.
  • PG5 is the largest molecule in the world with a diameter of 10 nanometres and a mass equal to 200 million hydrogen atoms. PG5 is synthesized by scientist Dieter Schlüter.
